Workshops

During 1980-1983, developed and conducted a series of one-week workshops on "Design and Operation of Circular and Band Saws," held annually at the University of California Forest Products Laboratory in Richmond, California. During 1984 and 1985, leader of a one-day workshop on "Design, Operation and Maintenance of Circular and Band Saws," and during 1986, leader of a one-day workshop on "Scanning Technology in Sawmilling" held in conjunction with the Forest Industries Clinic and Machinery Show in Portland, Oregon.

In 1985, initiated WMI two-day Workshop on Design, Operation and Maintenance of Circular Saws and Band Saws which is held annually in Portland, Oregon. From 1992 - 2012 conducted biennial workshop on "Wood Machining and Cutting Tools" held in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, developed and conducted on-site workshops on "Design, Operation and Maintenance of Circular and Band Saws." These workshops have been held at:

  • Organized and served as Symposium Chairman of CIFAC '92, CIFAC '94 and CIFAC '96: The First, Second, and Third International Symposiums on Computers in Furniture and Cabinet Manufacturing, held in Atlanta, Georgia, and High Point, North Carolina.

  • Developed a program and served as a Program Chairman of ScanTech and SawTech 2006, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, November 2-3, 2006.




Editorial Work

1. During 1980-1983 initiated the Wood Industry News and also assumed responsibility for editing the Wood Processing Report. Both newsletters were published by the University of California Cooperative Extension and were addressed to secondary and primary industries, respectively.

2. In 1984, initiated editing and publishing of a bimonthly international newsletter, Wood Machining News. As of December 31, 2008, 150 issues have been published.

3. Contributing Editor to Furniture Design & Manufacturing magazine (1984-1991).

4. Reviewer for the Forest Products Journal.

5. Reviewer of Research proposals for USDA and Canadian National Research Council.
